The Guyana’s tourism committee had a lot to talk about at IFTM Top Resa 2016. An increase in hotel capacity and the development of new routes to island destination have been announced. The development of tourism also involves renovation of hotels in Cayenne, new management for the famed “Auberge des îles du salut” on Kourou, the creation of new packages, and the founding of two new associations of local tourism professionals.
On September 5, 2016, Air Caribbean launched a fourth direct flight between Paris and Cayenne – every Saturday until 15/10, then on Sundays from 16/10. And in August, Azul Linhas Aéras Brasileiras opened a second weekly flight between Fortaleza in Guyana and northern Brazil.
NEW PROFESSIONAL GROUPINGS
The Club Hôtelier de Guyane has been created with the aim of assisting in the development of tourism in Guyana. Hoteliers are pooling their efforts to underpin the hospitality trade and work on improving tourism promotion, as well as creating a broader professional ethic for the trade.
A new trade union for Tour Operators meanwhile has also been announced, aiming to create synergies between the different tourism actors in Guyana, including the creation of complementary products between hotels, B&Bs and the forest campsites in order to achieve a complete offer for weekday or weekend travelers.
A new receptive agency, “Guyana escape”, made its first appearance at IFTM Top Resa, and the incoming president of Guyana’s tourism committee, Alex Madeleine, was also present at the show to meet institutional and private partners.
